Therapy Services

Play Therapy for Children

Therapy services for children can consist of many different approaches, including play therapy. Play therapy is a preferred modality when working with children, as it allows children the safe place to express their emotions. However, it is important for the child to decide on the best approach. Different aspects of play therapy utilized in the services offered include:

  • Adlerian Play Therapy
  • Child-Centered Play Therapy
  • Child-Parent Relationship Therapy
  • Theraplay®
  • Bibliotherapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Expressive/Sensory Play Therapy

The initial session is for parents only to complete the intake and discuss concerns and goals. Treatment planning and modalities are discussed further in the initial session.

Therapy Services for Adolescents

Therapy services for adolescents are designed around the skills of the teenager. Play therapy can be utilized with adolescents in a more creative capacity, such as Expressive Arts/Art Therapy. Different aspects of therapy services for Adolescents include:

  • Music
  • Writing
  • Art
  • Movement

The initial session is for parents only to complete the intake and discuss concerns and goals. Treatment planning and modalities are discussed further in the initial session. Adolescents are encouraged to participate in their treatment planning and choice of therapy modality.

Parent/Caregiver Sessions

As part of the therapy process for children, parent support and feedback is essential. Every parent faces parenting challenges and this becomes even more difficult when a child is experiencing his or her own crises. That is why parent support sessions are provided throughout the therapy process. These sessions are meant to provide psychoeducational information about your child, his or her development, and recommendations to support your child through their struggles. Parent session philosophy: "Therapy is an hour a week, parenting is 24/7." Parents need just as much support during their child's ongoing struggles as does the child.

Family Therapy

Family therapy services can be provided in both a traditional talk therapy environment, as well as family play therapy. Many young children do not have the ability to sit through traditional talk therapy. Family Play Therapy allows the young child to participate, while helping parents experience their child's world through the play. Family therapy modalities are chosen based on family dynamics and therapist preference.
